Formative Design
Developing Methods
Formative Design focuses on the development of individual designing methods. It begins from a simple but fundamental insight: everything that is designed—ideas, images, media, objects, spaces—is based on movements, coordinates, and operations of chance.
Movements refer to bodily action: gestures, rhythms, repetitions, pressures, durations. Coordinates refer to measured relations: between objects, their parts, other objects, bodies, spaces—static and dynamic. Chance operations introduce contingency as a productiveforce rather than an error.
